Why PMS & Early Pregnancy Symptoms Are Same ? | TTC | TWW

Hello There, TTC (Trying to Conceive) & TWW(Two Week Wait) Ladies , often times we feel or notice symptoms after we ovulated ,the more we noticed ,the more we get confused as PMS & Early Pregnancy Symptoms are quite similar to each other and the key hormones Estrogen & Progesterone makes it very difficult to distinguish between PMS & Pregnancy Symptoms .I Know how frustrating it becomes & this phase of TWW feels like torture & we feel alone, but if we understand the cause behind this ,the journey becomes somewhat less painful at least mentally.
So today we will discuss,
Why PMS & Early Pregnancy Symptoms Are Same ?
After your menstruation is over, hormone Estrogen comes into play and the surge in estrogen helps in Ovulation Process (around day 12 – day 18 for a 28-30 day menstrual cycle) ,once your body ovulated ,estrogen levels drops and from here hormone Progesterone will be a dominant hormone in your system whether you are Pregnant or NOT pregnant.
The hormone Progesterone is responsible for PMS as well as Early Pregnancy Symptoms –
Progesterone plays one of the most important role after ovulation , it starts making an environment for potential pregnancy inside the womb and it waits till the fertilized egg reaches the tube and implants itself in the uterus lining.
In case no egg got fertilized or implanted , body signals for the drop in Progesterone and there comes your Aunt Flow (AKA Period).
So now you got to know Progesterone is making you feel symptoms like –
1.Breast Tenderness
2.Sore Nipples
3.Frequent Urination
4.Nausea
5.Headaches
6.Cramps
7.Bloating
8.Lower Backaches
9.Constipation
10.Vaginal Discharge
11.Mood Swings etc
So its hard to tell from these symptoms in that two week wait (14 days from the day you Ovulated) whether you are getting close to your period aka PMS or you have conceived and its early pregnancy Symptoms.
PMS & Early Pregnancy Symptoms Are Same because in both the cases hormone Progesterone plays the dominant role.
Its only after your two week wait period ,IF YOUR SYMPTOMS ARE PERSISTENT OR INCREASING DAY BY DAY ,taking a Pregnancy test (mostly after 14-15 DPO) can give you correct answers whether its PPMS or Early Pregnancy.
Till then just keep logging data to understand your body better and play the waiting game but don’t get disheartened ,there is always another cycle coming soon.
Every ending is a NEW BEGINNING.
