When to take a Pregnancy Test ? | Missed Period – Early Pregnancy – PMS

Taking a Pregnancy Test is often a work of 3-5 Minutes , but for the accurate result one should wait until they missed period or at least after 14 DPO (Days Past Ovulation).
And if you don’t know or can’t predict exactly when you ovulated or you have irregular period (menstrual length keep on varying each month), then in those case take a test after 21 days of Unprotected intercourse.
I know waiting seems like a torture when you really need to find out the Result.
Either You are trying for pregnancy or trying to avoid it, waiting game is very hard, you just want to take a test and get over with it, but controlling your emotions will be a wise choice in this scenario.
Why you should longer to take Home Pregnancy Test ?
As testing too early can often lead to more drama – it may give a false negative or false positive or evaporation line.
Though the chances of false positive are lesser than false negatives.
Always Remember to read the instructions before taking the test ,as each pregnancy test kit brand have a time frame to check the result. If you see a faint line within a given time frame (say 3 minutes or 5 minutes) chances of early pregnancy are likely.
You may be asking –
What are false positive, false negative and evaporation line ?
False positive –
When you are NOT pregnant but the test is faulty or the ink dye in it gives a faint second line on Pregnancy Test. It may or may not be an indication of early pregnancy depending on the time frame it took to appear on the test.
Evaporation line –
When you are NOT pregnant, and a greyish or colorless streak appears on the place of second line ,this DOES NOT mean you are pregnant, it actually your dried Urine on sample paper.
False Negative –
When you are ACTUALLY PREGNANT, but test shows only a single line / false negative. This happens often, because in the case of early pregnancy ,if you test too early your body haven’t produced detectable levels of HCG. You end up getting false negative when you may be pregnant.
Many women are lucky to find out they are pregnant as soon as 8 DPO – 12 DPO ,as there body have produced detectable levels of HCG. But each woman is different and each pregnancy is different.
Normally until 14 DPO , egg have been fertilized and implantation process have occurred in the female body. But the process of implantation vary from 6 DPO – 12 DPO mainly depending on when egg attaches itself to the lining of uterus.
As soon soon implantation is successful ,body starts secreting pregnancy hormone know as HCG – Human chorionic gonadotropin.
How much HCG (Human chorionic gonadotropin) urine test can detect ? – At least 20 mIU/mL
How much HCG (Human chorionic gonadotropin) blood test can detect ? – As low as 5 to 10 mIU/mL
So next time when you want to confirm your BFP (Big Fat Positive) or BFN (Big Fat Negative) just learn to be patient enough to wait until you miss your period.
It will spare tons of disappointment and heartbreak.
All the baby dust to TTC ladies !!
Happy Trying.
